In a major setback to the city’s diamond hub, burglars made away with diamonds valued at more than ₹25 crore from D.K. & Sons Diamond Company in the Kapodra area during the recent three-day holiday. The daring theft has rattled Surat’s diamond trade, one of the world’s key centers, and sparked questions over security measures in the industry.

Police reported that the culprits broke into the firm’s fourth-floor office in Kapoorwadi, used a cutter to break open the safe, and escaped with rough diamonds along with cash. Before fleeing, they destroyed CCTV cameras and took away the DVR system in an attempt to wipe out all evidence.

Speaking to reporters, DCP Alok Kumar said, “The timing of the theft indicates meticulous planning. Taking advantage of the three-day holiday, the criminals broke in and executed the robbery. According to the company’s invoice records, diamonds worth more than ₹25 crore have been stolen. We are scanning CCTV footage from nearby buildings to trace the culprits.”
